Austin based guitarist Gary Clark Jr. has been hailed by many as the saviour of the blues. With his incredible guitar skills and a rough voice perfect for the blues, Gary has made a name for himself with some of the worlds biggest artists, performing with the likes of Eric Clapton and Sheryl Crow.
The nephew of legendary blues guitarist W.C Clark, Gary took to the guitar at an early age playing shows throughout his teens. Slowly Gary built a reputation within Austin’s well known music scene and with the help of Clifford Antone he managed to come into contact with some of Austin’s top blues artists who helped him hone his craft.
Clark fuses multiple styles together using his varied influences to create music that fits within whatever genre he chooses, all while maintaining a certain air of freshness and uniqueness. He is more than capable on the guitar, mixing intricate solos with well constructed and fluid chord progressions. Although his voice is perfect for the blues, he doesn’t restrict himself to this style, experimenting with other genres such as soul and hip hop and never sounds out of place.
Since 2010 Gary Clark Jr. has released both his self titled LP and The Bright Lights EP both of which are excellent and definitely worth buying if you are a fan of rock, blues or soul. You can purchase The Bright Lights Ep on iTunes here.
